The theme for the first day was, “MATSURi DA TOKYO!!” (It’s a festival, Tokyo!!). The keyword of the event was, “idol” and “anison”.
On the main stage, “KAWAii Stage”, visuals of Miku Hatsune by livetune and rhizomatiks were featured for a special collaboration show. Local idol group, Negicco, stepped on stage carrying “negi” (welsh onions) and expressed their enthusiasm, “I’m glad to have a negi relationship with Miku Hatsune”. Soon after, UP UP GIRLS KAKKOKARI put on a heated performance crying, “It’s not just about kawaii!” BiS, a unique breed of idols, put on a rocking show while LinQ actively ran around on stage (10 out of the 30 official members of the group participated that day). Denpagumi.inc put on a cute performance wearing a collaboration costume with SPINNS. In between concerts, popular cosplayers from the cosplay community website, Cure, wore their original costumes and walked down the runway.

The show proceeded into the anison portion of the event. Eir Aoi stepped on stage, as the audience was covered with blue glow sticks, and showed off her powerful vocals. Shoko Nakagawa called to the crowd, “fill your right hand with your ‘cosmo’”, and sang her heart out in, “Pegasus Fantasy”. Next in line was the leader of the anison world, May’n. She stepped on stage with a dance crew and put on a cool performance. In pride of her Japanese heritage, she exclaimed, “Japan is the Mecca (of kawaii and anime), so WE have to take this show to the next level!” The main act of the day was T.M.Revolution. With the last number of the day, “HIGH PRESSURE”, the whole crowd stood up and raised their fists high in the air, while they all danced together to the song. The 1st day of the 2-day festival came to a close with everyone shouting, “MATSURi DA TOKYO!!”, while they raised their glow sticks.

The theme for the second day was, “HARAJUKU KAWAii”. In addition to the outdoor ENNICHi stage and the KAWAii stage from the first day, the second day featured the MATSURi stage, which was opened by 7!!. Hanae sang her new song, “Boyz & Girlz” in addition to the Rin Kagamine, cover song, “Melancholic”. Yun*chi’s set list included her newest song, “Shake you*”.
The opening act for the KAWAii stage was Silent Siren (aka Saisai). As soon as they stepped on stage, cries of “kawaii” filled the place. This day, the KAWAii stage was used not only for musical concerts, but also for a fashion show featuring the artists and other popular models. The fashion shows were cutely presented by “Ao-mozi Kei” fashion magazines such as, CUTiE, KERA, Zipper, Choki Choki girls, USED Mix, FRUiTS, and mer.

As SCANDAL made their appearance, all the people in the jam-packed gymnasium were on their feet, and the gear shifted quickly into concert-mode. Their set list included “Satifaction”, the Windows 8 commercial song, and their May 22nd release new song, “Awanai Tsumori no Genki Dene”. Vocalist, HARUNA, revealed her high hopes for the event and for Japanese pop culture in general, “I sincerely hope that an event like this can be held overseas too.” The crowd got even more heated up with the entrance of “SEKAI NO OWARI”. On this first show since vocalist, Fukase’s leg injury, they performed 8 songs, including “Nemurihime” and “RPG”.

Then there was the main act of the second day: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. As soon as Kyary Pamyu Pamyu set foot on the stage, the whole gymnasium was filled with the call, “Kyary-chan!!” It was the first time to perform her new song, “Invader Invader” in Japan, which lived up to the theme of the event to “take over the world with fashion!” She performed 10 songs including fan-favorites, “Tsukema Tsukeru”, and “Fashion Monster”. She called to the crowd saying, “I was using “kawaii” in the US and Europe during my world tour. You should all cry out ‘kawaii’!!” All the artists and models that participated in the event closed the 2-day event with the big unison cry of, “HARAJUKU KAWAii”.

Videos featuring comments from the artists, and behind-the-scene shots are available now on Kawaii girl Japan. You can listen to their thoughts on the event, and hear them talk about their personal views on “kawaii”, so don’t forget to check that out too!
