“Barbie Award” is an award presented to a celebrity member who is fashionable and attracts as much attention as Barbie, who, by the way, celebrated her 55th anniversary this yeah. Being the icon of “HARAJUKU” and attracting worldwide attention as an artist and a charismatic fashion icon, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was the first in 10 years to be awarded the “Barbie Award” within the country.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu stepped onto the stage this day dressed in pick jacket and mini skirt, a costume resembling the fashion of Barbie. In response to winning the award, Kyary commented, “I’ve always loved Barbie since I was small. I’m very happy for receiving this prestigious award”. In commemoration for winning the award, she received a portrait Barbie wearing a costume replicating that from the song “PON PON PON” from her debut EP “Moshi Moshi Harajuku”. Regarding that, Kyary said, “It’s like a dream come true that the costume from my debut song “PON PON PON” was made into a Barbie doll”.

A picture of Kyary’s “Barbie Corner” that she has at her home was revealed at the event. Kyary often uses her free time while overseas to purchase loads of Barbie dolls. As advise, she mentioned, “Just setting a Barbie doll as decoration makes the room look more feminine, and it gets better if you place something like a cupcake next to it”.

Kyary added, “Barbie is an eternal idol for girls. She’s a charisma. Just looking at her melts my heart. She is my master… or more like charisma. Since Barbie is also blonde, I often use her fashion as reference. It’s cute that she even matches the color of her shoes to her clothes.” Lastly, she added, “I want to become a woman like Barbie, who continues to shine brightly.”
